MEET MRS. WILLINSKI
Hello! My name is Mrs. Willinski and I am originally from Salamanca, Spain. In this picture you see that I am wearing a flamenco dress, right? Yes, everybody thinks about flamenco when talking about Spain, but that is only one very small part of the incredible cultural diversity, delicious cuisine, beautiful towns and cities, literary and art scenes that you will find if you ever visit my country. My hometown is Salamanca, one of the most important university cities in Spain, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. I first arrived in the United States in 2005, to teach at the wonderful Clough school, where I met my husband, John, and I have lived here in Massachusetts ever since. Every summer we go back to my native country for a few weeks to visit my family and reconnect with my friends.
On May 13th, 2021, still in the middle of the pandemic, I became an American Citizen! My students gave me a huge surprise the day after my test and ceremony, it was one of the most emotional moments in my life. I could not be a more proud teacher!
This picture shows the "Plaza Mayor" (the main square) in Salamanca. In the summer people go out to meet their friends for a "tapa" late at night, as it's usually really hot after lunchtime. You can see families walking around at 10, 11 or 12 pm! You will also see theater and musicians on the streets.
One of the joys of any city in Spain is eating out at a terrace. My husband and I love to walk around the streets and find new interesting places, but we always end up back at the Plaza Mayor. Right in this spot is one of the best ice-cream places in the world, I'm not kidding!
Back in Massachusetts, one of the things that always makes me happy is Nature! I love spending time outdoors, walking in the woods, gardening in my backyard, or just bird watching. I'm definitely a tree hugger! I'm a passionate environmentalist, always trying to improve the ways I can help protect our beautiful planet. I also love reading, writing, and creating things with my own hands. And I love cats, we have two kitties, Lana and Millie, each with their different personalities :)
I have been lucky enough to work in a profession that I love. I have been teaching elementary students since 2005 in America, and in a private school of English for adults for other 7 years in Spain prior to come to the US. My Bachelor is in English Language and Literature for the University of Salamanca (Spain), and I got my Masters in Elementary Education through American International College (in the US). I'm passionate about incorporating Mindfulness into my life and the lives of my students. For the past few years I have been taking some classes in Mindful Schools, like Mindfulness Fundamentals, Mindful Educator Essentials, Mindful Communication, and Difficult Emotions. I love to work with my students every day. Seeing how they strive to learn, become engaged and enthusiastic about any new topic, and learn to navigate social and emotional situations, make my days always interesting and inspiring.
Thank you for stopping by, I'm looking forward to this school year!
See you soon!
