-Go in your room , we are getting your stuff ready! Says my mom.
I wait in my room, I write in my journal. It’s December 21st. I’m at my mom's house.
They are getting a surprise for me. Tomorrow I’m going to go to my dad’s and spend time there for my birthday. My Mimi comes in.
-Cayce, you can come out now! ,she says. I walk out, and I see Unicorn decorations and streamers. A couple of good friends are there, I haven’t seen them in a while. My Pop is there. -Surprise! Say all say at the same time. I put a hand over my mouth, my eyes start getting blurry. We start playing family. I was the mom, Alexis is the baby, Natalie was the teenager. -Kids come on! It’s time to eat!, exclaimed my mom form the kitchen. I smell my Mimi’s homemade Mac and cheese and chicken potstickers. We drink Ginger Ale, Sprite and my favorite kind of juice, fruit punch. I get a plate, a spoonful of mac and cheese, three chicken potstickers and a cup of fruit punch.
My friends and I go sit at the table, we talk about what I am going to get for my birthday, and about sports.
We finish our dinner and after playing family again, we jump in my little sister’s trampolin, and pretend it’s an airplane. We are going on a trip.
-Time for cake!, calls my mom.
We all run in, my mom lights the candles and turns off the lights. They sing happy birthday.
I cut up the chocolate cake, it is delicious!
-It’s time for presents!, my mom says.
We all go to the living room. My mom brings some bags an some wrapped presents.
I take off the wrapper of one.
-What is this?, I ask
-It’s rocks for some sort of animal.
I see two other little things. A mermaid with a shell necklace that is also a unicorn, and a mermaid castle with an open door.
-It’s a fish!, I yell.
-Yes, but there is one more thing in there! My mom says.
Of course it’s the fish tank. Now my dad brings out the fish. It’s blue, mixed with red and pink.
-The name is Moonlight!, I say out loud.
I was cold and hot. You can’t hear anything but hockey stopping the sound of the poke hitting the boards. The hockey game was fun. We were playing well but it wasn’t great. They got the upper hand. We were playing well but our score was bad. I can’t really remember the score but I think it was 2 to 4, we were playing badly. For the first period we got more goals like 1 but we were playing a decent second period. We were still losing the game and our confidence. We weren't playing hard enough at all and they were playing pretty tired. We had so many opportunities. We had three goals but we let our guard down and they got the best of us. We were all just playing bad. We were tired because it was an early game. Around the end there was a huge twist. This guy tripped me and I got an elbow hit on the spine. The guy got upset and started to punch me so I pushed him back on the ice. Then the ref saw it and called penalties on me. The other guy had a two minute penalty. I heard his coach said “You could have been kicked out of the game!”. When it was 2 to 4 I was so nervous. I was praying to Jesus in my head to win but we lost.
I was doing gymnastics classes and after a year of doing that they invited me to go to level three and I went. I was so excited they even let me skip level 1 and 2. But after school I had to move fast because school ended at 3:00 and I got home from the bus at 3:40 and it took me 12 minutes to get to gymnastics, so after school I had to go go go or else I was going to be late for gymnastics. And I had to go to competitions and I had to do a very hard skill. So it was super hard for me. At the end of the year when they invited me to go to level 4. I didn’t because it was going to be harder than level 3 so I didn’t go. But they said next year I could go back to level 3. So I was happy and sad, well I was sad because I had my best friends and they were all going to level 4 and it made me so sad. I thought I would never see them again, but I was happy because I just don’t want to relax in my bed watching YouTube on my iPad and I didn’t need to go to gymnastics even though I like gymnastics. After that year I kind of missed Netflix so I went back into it but I didn’t go to level three I actually went into level one, that was kind of fun and after I went back in for a week three I was so excited and now this year it has a different floor, beam, vault and bars routine. On the first date of the new level three there were some other kids that I didn’t know. I still like to know them. They all were very nice. My mom thought so too. Their names were Ashley, Layla, Cathrine, Ava, Alexa and GG. I only knew Alexa, she was in level 1 with me. And it’s now our first competition but only 2 of the 7 people were there. It was only me and Ashley because there was a snowstorm and it was big. And my coach told us that if we stayed on the beam we would get an ice cream or a pizza party. And we both stayed on the beam. So now Ashley and I have decided that we want to have an ice cream party but It won’t be a party because it’s just us 2 but I am kind of happy that It's just the 2 of us. It was a couple days until we got the ice cream but I was still happy that we got it and all my friends were really jealous of us. That actually kind of made me laugh. My friend Ashley got an Eminem ice cream and I got a chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. Yum! it was so good I ate half of it in the car on the way home. It was so so good. When I got home it was time to eat dinner but I still ate some more of my ice cream before dinner then we ate dinner. After dinner I ate the rest of my ice cream. In the next couple of weeks it was our next competition and 5 out of the 7 people were there on my team.
I have severe peanut and tree nut allergies. I have to be really careful about what I eat. I can’t eat anything with nuts in them and it makes it difficult. My mom has to call the company that makes the food or drink and ask if it is cross contaminated or if it is safe for me to eat. Sometimes this can take two weeks or longer. One morning my mom was on Facebook and she said “oh my God!” and I was very confused. She said that there was this camp called Camp Emerson and it is all nut and tree nut free. She said I am going to book when we can go, I was so excited. Then it was time to pack. I brought a lot of stuff. It was like a 4 hour drive. But we got there and then we had to get some food. For us the food was so good and I could eat all of it. The best part is I could eat dessert and I never get to do that at restaurants. Before we went to sleep we went to check out the bathroom that was not connected to our cabin. There were showers. It was weird because there were wood panels everywhere. Then it was time to get settled but there were some bugs, it was different than home but I got the hang of it sooner or later. The next day I was excited, I was jumping up and down. I am pretty sure that I almost touched the ceiling because it was activity day. I met these girls and they were nice. Their names were Anna and Luisa. They were sisters. I would see them everywhere. For the next three days I played with them all the time. We went swimming in a lake where I thought a crocodile was going to get me. We went zip lining and you let go into the lake. Finally we went to the art station and made friendship bracelets but Luisa’s broke. I thought she was going to cry. We got some sad news that they live all the way in the middle of Texas -THAT IS SOOOOOOOO FAR AWAY FROM ME!, I thought. The next night I was kind of sad but I tried my best not to be sad and just have fun for the time that I was there. But I must say the food there was so good I loved it there. It was amazing. The owner and his wife were so kind. The camp manager lived all the way in Australia. He had a cool accent and he would say hi every morning when I went up to get breakfast. I wish the trip was longer. It was four days but not long enough, but it was ok because I had a lot of fun. I do miss Anna and Luisa a lot. It's ok though because our parents have each other's phone number. I loved Camp Emerson because I felt normal because I could eat everything like all the other kids.
How do you do that?-I ask in disgust. Chris is silent holding his hands in the front, moves his arms all the way up and back down his back still holding his hands. His shoulder’s look double jointed and I feel weird inside. He is showing it off to Luke because he thinks it’s cool. But I am between these two boys and I feel like I’m trapped. -Can you please stop? I asked him- it’s really annoying me. But they ignore me. They are also being loud and that is also bothering me because you might get booted out of the show if people are performing and you are being very loud. It is really uncomfortable, I just want to go home.
Oh my gosh! There’s sheep - I exclaimed
I walked over to one of the sheep pens, I tried to pet them through the fence but they jumped and started walking away, because I was moving too fast.
I walked over to the other side, this time I was slower, I gently touched their backs, but they kept on moving. There were a bunch of tinny pens with sheep. I went to the one next to where I was, there was a black sheep laying down on the ground, and I started to pet her. Fluffy cute and all the sudden I see a white sheep that starts “meeing” at me it was a white fluffy sheep. I was still petting the black sheep when one of the workers brought food. Both of them wanted to eat food, my parents wanted to continue moving.
I was not happy to move on. I wanted to stay.
I have butterflies in my stomach. I am thinking about what the gift could be. I opened a pink and blue box with polka dots with a bow on top, and saw a very skinny dog toy Santa that sounded like broken glass when you squeezed it or jumped on it. At first I thought we were going to meet Santa. I shouted “Oh my goodness” to the top of my lungs. In the box there was a bag of what I thought was trail mix, I picked it up and it said “dog training treats”. I heard my brother shout,”we are gonna get a dog”! with excitement. For a moment I thought about my other dog. I had tears coming out of my eyes, my hands were on my head, my lips were stretched from ear to ear, because a couple years before that day we had a black and brown dog. It was so nice, cute, smart, and one day it got so sick. A couple of days later we went to bed around 7:30 p.m I woke up at around 7:30 a.m my dad and mom told us that it had passed away. Ever since we have been wanting a dog but my mom kept on saying no. On December third 2021 we got a dog. That night our friends came over, saw the dog, we put her in her kennel and went to bed because we all were so tired. The next day we found the right food she had to eat. Her name was Apple Pie. We didn’t really like that name so we changed it to Zoey. She likes to jump on counters when there is food on it so we started to spray her with water. We have taught her to sit, lay down, and come. She knows how to do each one of these tricks. Come is kinda like a trick. I'm not that good at knowing dog tricks. All I know is that they are very cute.
-We should get a dog! My mom said. My ears open really wide, I can’t stop smiling, I jump up and down. My brother and sister look at me with amazement. I can’t believe it is true? My family was arguing about what the name for the was going to be. We decided that the name for the dog was going to be “Grizzly”. A really long time later my mom and my brother went to Maine to see the dog. -This small male moonlight black dog was yours to keep, but you have to wait until it is 7 weeks and 6 days old. The person who worked there said. My mom said if I wanted to go to get the dog or stay at my grandparents house. I said I wanted to stay at my grandparents house. Weeks later I went to my grandparents house a day before my family went to Maine to get the dog. I had pasta for dinner. I had to go to bed. I woke up the next day, and I went down the stairs slowly. - Good morning. I said to my grandpa who was eating cereal with banana pieces in it, he was drinking coffee and doing puzzles in the newspaper. -Can I play on your iPad? I said. -Yes you can. My grandpa said. I was playing on the iPad for a while, and my grandma came down the stairs slowly. -What would you like to have for breakfast? My grandma said. -Pancakes. I said. -Ok. My grandma said. My grandma was in the kitchen when I was on the couch playing video games on the iPad. -Pancakes are ready! My grandma said. I went into the kitchen, sat on a chair and my grandma gave me my pancakes. -What would you like for a drink? My grandpa said. -Orange juice. I said. My grandpa got out the orange juice, a cup and poured some orange juice. When I finished my breakfast, I went up the stairs to a room, shut the door, put on my socks, underwear, shorts, t-shirt and went down the stairs. When I went down the stairs my cousin came. I jumped up and down, I couldn't stop smiling, I put on my sneakers, went outside, came up with a game where one person hid something somewhere and the other person had to find and get to another place to win, while running away from the other person. After that I went to my house and I was waiting for my family. When my family came, the dog jumped out and ran right to me.
I was at diabetes camp. It was our sleepover day and we were going to watch a movie with pizza. I was playing a game WITH dodgeballs. The object of the game was to keep the balls away from the girls. The room was empty except for a couple of chairs, tables and camping things. It was super fun until I tripped on some shoes and broke my arm. Which now looked like a noodle. Thoughts just started running through my head but the worst one was: is it broken? The camp counselors who were very nice whisked me away into a different room and they gave me some lemon flavored ice thing. It tasted so good but it didn’t help my thoughts. The camp counselors called 911 and soon an ambulance was waiting for me. The camp counselors and 911 helped me into the ambulance. A nice camp counselor came with me and tried to calm me but all I wanted to do was see my parents. When we got to the hospital for my 5th time. (good and bad times) The people who work there put me in a room with a bed, tv and some chairs. They put me on the bed and turned on the tv. Eventually my parents came. When my parents came I was smiling a huge smile and tears started to come to my eyes. They turned on something I actually liked. (the first thing was horrible) I told them what happened and after that I just watched Spongebob and Alvin and the chipmunks until the doctors came. When they did come they came with a huge thing that looked like a crusher. They told me it was a X-ray thank goodness. They injected me with this stuff that put me in a deep sleep. When I woke up I had a neon green cast on and everything had a double next to it. I kept saying everything is duplicating. I went home and got back at 3:00 am but it wasn’t so bad.
